Vacancy and Eligibility Criteria

Of the 84 posts, 8 are reserved for ex-servicemen. Qualification: A Master’s degree in Chemistry, or a degree in Food Technology, Dairy Technology, Biotechnology, Oil Technology, Agriculture Science, Veterinary Science, Bio-Chemistry, Microbiology or Medicine. A bachelor’s, master’s or Doctorate degree in the listed Food Technology and Agricultural Science disciplines is also accepted. The degree must come from a university established under a Central or State Act, or a deemed university under section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, or an equivalent qualification recognised by the Government.

Other conditions: Basic knowledge of computer applications, and adequate knowledge of Gujarati or Hindi or both. No person with a financial interest in the manufacture, import or sale of any article of food can be appointed as a Food Safety Officer.

Age Limit and Application Fee

Candidates must be 18 to 37 years old on 10 November 2026. The relaxed maximum age is 42 years for women of the general category and for men of reserved categories, 45 years for women of reserved categories, for men with a disability of the general category, and for women with a disability of the general category, and higher for women with a disability of reserved categories. Ex-servicemen get their period of service plus three years. Only SC, ST, SEBC and EWS candidates of Gujarat origin get the age relaxation and reservation benefits.

The fee is paid online only, after the application is submitted and a confirmation number is generated, by 13 November 2026. Payment can be made by debit card, internet banking, UPI or wallet. The fee is refunded, through the mode used to pay it, to candidates who appear in the examination. Candidates who do not appear get no refund. An application without the fee is rejected without notice.

Selection Process and Exam Pattern

Selection stages: (1) One-stage MCQ competitive examination (CBRT or OMR), with Part-A and Part-B in a single question paper; (2) Provisional result for all candidates who appear, published on the board’s website; (3) Document verification for about two times the number of posts in each category, chosen by total marks from candidates who meet the qualifying standard in both parts; (4) Selection list and waiting list, prepared category-wise on merit; (5) Recommendation to the department for appointment in order of merit number.

Negative marking is one-fourth of the marks for the question for each wrong answer. The qualifying standard is at least 40 percent in Part-A and at least 40 percent in Part-B, each counted separately. A provisional answer key will be published after the exam, followed by the final answer key. Widow candidates get 5 percent of their marks added for preference, and sportspersons who represented at national, international, inter-university or All India School Federation level get 5 percent added, subject to certificate verification.

How to Apply

1. Go to ojas.gujarat.gov.in. Candidates who have not registered must complete the One Time Registration first.
2. Click Apply under Online Application, select GSSSB, then click the name of Advertisement No. 465/202627, Food Safety Officer, Class-3, and click Apply.
3. Enter the registration number and date of birth, then click Apply with OTR. Fill in every field marked with a red asterisk.
4. Enter SSC details, bank account details for the fee refund, and educational details. Under Declaration, select Yes and click Save to generate the application number.
5. Upload the photograph (5 cm high, 3.6 cm wide) and signature (2.5 cm high, 7.5 cm wide), each in jpg format and no larger than 15 kb. The photograph must be passport size, with a white background and the date taken printed on it, not more than one year before the last date.
6. Click Confirm Application, check all details, and confirm. Note the confirmation number, print the application, and pay the fee online by 13 November 2026.
